Letter received by the Foundation from the anitary director:
Dear Dott. Caponi,
I am writing you from Mozambique. Specifically, I am in Maputo for the DREAM program for the prevention and cure of AIDS.
Finally, I am happy to be able to write you saying that the LEEP system, financed by the Maurizio Caponi Foundation in collaboration with the University of Pisa Department directed by Prof. Bevilacqua, arrived in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Maputo Central Hospital just a few hours ago. The equipment and associated instruments are now in the room where they should be used. A doctor from the Pisa Hospital will come to Maputo in the next few days to train the local gynecologists in their use. Everything arrived intact. Knowing the problems in Africa and the customs organization, I consider this already a good result.
The screening and research programs for the prevention of uterine cancer in HIV-positive women are going well. The Ministry of Health of Mozambique considers this program important and is honored by the precious collaboration from the University of Pisa and the Sant'Egidio Community.
Thanks to the donation from the Caponi Foundation, the cancer screening, prevention and curing program can count on modern technology for surgical therapy of precocious cancerous lesions. This is very important for the health of women in Mozambique.
I therefore cannot hide my joy and renew my esteem and my thanks. I also send you those from the Sant'Egidio Community and from Prof. Bevilacqua.
My most heartfelt greetings
Dr Massimo Magnano San Lio
